A motorcyclist killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Las Vegas on last Thursday night has been identified. The motorcycle fatality happened just west of the Las Vegas Strip and included a motorcycle and three cars. The driver of the motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson, was a 25-year-old male, who’s name has just been released because authorities were able to notify the next of kin. The motorcyclist in the traffic fatality is a Las Vegas local, named Jared Nelson. The coroner has ruled his death an accident. Two of the other cars in the auto accident were damaged, and one of the drivers, a 25-year old female in a Nissan Sentra, was injured from the collision. The other car that sustained damage was a BMW 4 Series, which had been hit on its left side. According to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, the motorcycle rider failed to stop at a stoplight heading south on Dean Martin Drive and Jerry Lewis Way, and crashed right into the Nissan Sentra. Both the Nissan Sentra and the BMW 4 Series were turning left at the time, and the impact of the collision rotated the Nissan into the BMW. According to reports, both the left turn arrows were green and the cars had the right of way. Las Vegas Metro Police believe drugs and alcohol to be involved in this fatal motorcycle accident in Southern Nevada.
When driving a motorcycle on Nevada roadways, defensive driving is key. This includes anticipating what may or may not occur during your ride. If the motorcyclist in this accident had been able to anticipate the light change, this tragedy may not have happened. The rules of the road for motorcyclist are almost the same in every state. Wearing proper safety gear like helmets, driving staggered with other motorcycles, and maintaining a valid motorcycle license can all help you be in the best position possible while operating a motorcycle. From a personal injury perspective, following the rules of the road can help you avoid a motorcycle accident or fatality in Clark County. If you or a loved one are in an accident on your bike, getting insurance to cover your injuries can be a real hassle. Most people opt for minimum coverage on their insurance, which is only $15,000 in Nevada. This can barely cover medical costs, and sometimes doesn’t even come close to covering serious injuries. If you ride a motorcycle, it’s worth looking into getting solid insurance coverage, just in case.
